Are you a master of data handling who dreams of using your skills to make a positive impact on the world?

If so, we've got the perfect role for you!

Data Engineer

Hybrid (Lisbon, Portugal)

Full-Time

Development & Analytics Teams

Who we are

We are a CleanTech startup, building the next generation of digitalized and environmentally aware electrical grids. Our core technology is a network that traces emissions of electricity to empower companies to reduce their carbon footprint, making a critical contribution to protecting the future of our planet.

Emissium now has an exciting opportunity for a talented Data Engineer to join our team and play a key role in our data infrastructure. In this role, you will work within our development and analytics teams to design, implement, and maintain robust data pipelines and storage solutions, ensuring the seamless flow of data across our systems.

What you'll do

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines that collect, process, and store large datasets from various sources, including APIs and real-time data feeds.

  • Manage and optimize our databases, with a primary focus on PostgreSQL and time-series databases like InfluxDB.

  • Integrate diverse data sources and APIs into our infrastructure, ensuring data is accessible, accurate, and analysis-ready.

  • Continuously monitor and enhance the performance of data systems, ensuring low latency, high availability, and efficient data retrieval.

  • Be fully aware of the entire data flow from ingestion to client delivery. Identify bottlenecks and propose improvements, especially when new features are being planned or existing systems need optimization.

  • Implement and enforce best practices for data security and compliance.

  • Develop and automate data workflows to ensure efficient and reliable data delivery across the organization.

Who we're looking for

  • You enjoy tackling complex data challenges and can design efficient, scalable data systems with innovative solutions.

  • Passion for digitalization and desire to contribute to the energy transition, with 100% belief in our vision.

  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.

  • Proficiency in Python and TypeScript, with experience in ETL processes and API integration.

  • Knowledge of server architecture and management, with an understanding of Docker for containerization and deployment.

  • Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with PostgreSQL; familiarity with Supabase is a significant plus.

  • Experience with time-series databases like InfluxDB.

  • Understanding cloud-native services is useful, though there’s no immediate plan to move to the cloud. Knowledge of AWS, GCP, or Azure is an added advantage.

  • Strong understanding of data security best practices and compliance.

  • An understanding of electricity systems, environmental indicators, or similar domains is a significant advantage.

What we offer

  • A diverse and collaborative team of impact-driven individuals dedicated to solving real-world problems and a challenging work environment.

  • A competitive salary package with additional benefits.

  • A flexible hybrid work arrangement, combining remote work with regular in-person collaboration at our office in Lisbon.

  • We’re looking to add a new member at the earliest opportunity
